Corporate Development Associate Intern

Who We Are

PetDx is venture-backed San Diego based genomics/molecular diagnostics startup focused on the development of advanced non-invasive tests for the early detection and management of cancer in pets, with an initial focus in dogs. PetDx uses next-generation sequencing and proprietary bioinformatics to operate on the cutting edge of genomics and personalized health. We are a team of highly experienced physician-scientists, veterinarians, and life science executives aiming to revolutionize the field of veterinary oncology.

PetDx’s founding team and advisors include more than a dozen former senior executives from Illumina, Sequenom, PGDx, LabCorp, Pathway Genomics, J&J, and Petco. Most of them hold MD, PhD, DVM, or MBA degrees, and have been affiliated with prestigious academic institutions including Cornell, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, UCSD, University of Oxford, UW-Madison and Yale.


Job Description

We are seeking an entrepreneurial corporate development intern to join our team and support our Finance, Corporate Development, Business Development, and Commercial Strategy teams. This is a tremendous learning opportunity, and a unique chance to sink your teeth into cutting-edge science while experiencing a startup go through hyper-growth in the heart of Genomics & Biotechnology - San Diego, CA.

Expect to interface with industry-leading scientists and researchers, venture capital funds and leaders, strategic partners, institutional investors , and many other stakeholders regularly. There will be opportunities to attend industry events and be front-facing with stakeholders. Expect to participate in core team meetings, conference calls with key stakeholders, and company presentations. Your primary tasks will include leading certain fundamental corporate development initiatives and deliverable development depending on the season and stage of PetDx's products, transactions, and R&D.

The expectation is that you will act independently and collaboratively, learning to be highly effective and professional. Execution of projects and related ad-hoc/administrative work is a baseline expectation, but there will be many opportunities for tailored learning, mentorship, and self-directed time. As part of the internship on-set, we will align on projects, goals, deliverables and resources needed to be successful - expect us to invest in you as you might invest into PetDx. As a startup, we are seeking highly motivated and entrepreneurial candidates who think outside the box and desire to out-perform.

  • Product Pricing & Segmentation analysis
  • Competitor Landscape analysis
  • Data Room & Investor Tracker management
  • Accretion, Dilution & Capitalization analysis
  • Tax Accounting & R&D Tax Credits analysis
  • Project Management & GANTT chart preparation
  • Pitch Deck / CIM preparation

Timeline:

  • Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter season(s) 2020 - flexible on specific start/end dates.
  • Opportunity for full-time offer post-graduation.

Education and Requirements:

  • Pursuing Master's/MBA or Bachelor's Degree in Business related field with a Life Sciences or Biotechnology interest.
  • US Citizenship Required.
  • English (written, oral) mandatory.
  • Computer proficiency (e.g. Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook). Data analytics or modelling experience preferable (e.g. R, Power BI, Tableau).

Desirable Experience and Skills:

  • Outstanding records of academic or professional achievement.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of accounting and finance via basic coursework or experience.
  • Desire to learn above and beyond the minimum to accomplish work.
  • Flexibility and agility — this is an early stage startup environment.
