The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Division of Animal Health currently has an opening for an Animal Health Inspector (Entry) or Objective

This field based position will be headquartered in and conduct the majority of work within the following counties: Brown, Menomonee, Oconto, or Shawano

Position Summary:  

Animal Health Inspector (Entry): For an assigned geographic area of the state, this position spends a majority of its time inspecting animal facilities, records and equipment for compliance with animal health laws, rules, and regulations. Through routine inspection activities, the position will educate owners, dealers, etc. and seek voluntary compliance with animal health rules. Where necessary, the position will issue and document verbal and written warnings as well as make recommendations for written warnings or prosecution of animal health rule violations.

Animal Health Inspector - Objective: For an assigned geographic area of the state, this position spends a majority of its time investigating animal facilities, records and equipment for compliance with animal health laws, rules and regulations and investigating complaints or violations of animal health rules. Through routine inspection activities, the position will educate owners, dealers, etc. and seek voluntary compliance with animal health rules where necessary. The position will issue and document verbal and written warnings as well as make recommendations for written warnings or prosecution of animal health rule violations. This position may issue quarantines, refer cases for further compliance actions, assist with disease investigation, testing, sampling, epidemiology and track animal movement.

Special Notes:  

A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DATCP sponsorship) at the time of application.

Travel of 3-5 days per week (occasionally overnight) is required.

Qualifications:  
Minimally qualified applicants will have each of the following:
• Experience conducting inspections, such as inspection of facilities, records, and/or equipment for compliance with applicable policies, laws, or regulations; interviewing parties involved; documenting findings; preparing inspection reports; etc.
• Experience providing training/education.

Well qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:
• Experience in animal handling, agriculture and/or animal production practices.
• Experience conducting investigations in order to verify compliance with policies, rules, laws, etc.
• Experience taking enforcement actions.

The starting rate of pay at Entry level is: $18.75 per hour
The starting rate of pay at the Senior level is: $20.28 per hour
