Library Acquisitions and Periodicals Specialist

The Library Acquisitions and Periodicals Specialist reports to the Collection Development Librarian and supports the day-to-day operations of the library's Collection Development and Acquisitions (CDA) Unit. Responsible for ordering, receiving, and invoicing of library materials and e-resources. Assists with collection management tasks related to library acquisitions, serials/periodicals, e-resources, and stacks/space management. Assists with management of the library’s Gaming and Digital Innovation (GDI) Lab and supervision of Collection Development¿and Acquisitions student employees.¿Complies with recognized environmental health and safety practices.¿
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Orders and receives books, media, periodicals/serials, standing orders and e-resources.
  • Coordinates payment for physical items and electronic resources. Creates and submits invoices for payment and maintains payment records and spreadsheets.
  • Manages physical periodicals/serials including receiving, claiming, check-in, tagging, shelving and stacks management and retention schedules.
  • Maintains records of outstanding and completed orders, encumbrances, and expenditures and provides regular reports to the Collection Development Librarian.
  • Works as a part of a team to help manage and activate library e-resources and manage physical items.
  • Trains, guides, and assists with supervision of student employees as needed.
  • Assists with management of the library’s Gaming and Digital Innovation (GDI) Lab.
  • Assists with Collection Development and Acquisitions Unit tasks and projects, reporting, and library projects as assigned including, but not limited to, weeding, collection management and space/stacks projects.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of the Library Service Platform (ALMA), vendor ordering websites (ex. Rialto, Gobi, Emery Pratt, Amazon) and a variety of library and campus programs and software.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities and serves on library and/or campus committees as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
  • Ability to learn new procedures and tasks.
  • Attention to detail, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the Internet.
Preferred:
  • Associates degree in a related field.
  • Experience in a library or similar setting.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Customer service experience.

The normal work schedule for this position is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The minimum starting salary is $16.04 per hour. The hourly rate for this position is based on experience and available budget. A six-month probation is required.
