Social Worker/Social Worker, Senior

THE POSITION
The Criminal Justice Behavioral Health area of Human Services and Public Health Department (HSPH) has two openings for Social Workers or Senior Social Workers supporting court involved individuals referred to treatment courts. These positions will primarily screen individuals during triage for eligibility to one of the 3 treatment courts in this area: Drug, DWI, or Mental Health Criminal court. These positions will often work independently with duties to include assessing substance use and mental health needs, collecting bio/psycho/social histories, determining eligibility for services, making treatment referrals, coordinating services, records reviews, and completing documentation.

A third Social Worker/Senior Social Worker position is available in combination with treatment court triage duties as described above and includes a role in Felony Restorative Court supporting individuals on a multi-disciplinary team providing case management and assessment recommendations to support client’s functional improvement and reduce recidivism into the criminal justice system.

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Government Center at 300 South Sixth Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, the Public Safety Facility, and remote as duties require. Work hours are flexible and are primarily days, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary range (depending on qualifications):
Social Worker: $57,225.27 - $71,247.95 annually
Senior Social Worker: $58,179.28 - $83,801.71 annually  
 
About the position type:
These are full-time, benefit-earning positions.

In these positions, you will:     
  • Interview clients for assessment and screening of mental health (MH) and/or substance use disorder (SUD) needs.
  • Provide consultation for court and community partners on SUD, risk assessment, and chemical health services.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner including time reporting, court e-filing, placement recommendations, and funding authorizations.
  • Communicate with collateral contacts and court partners on clinical placement and treatment court recommendations.
  • Review individual's medical and social service records to assist in determining eligibility for services. 
Need to have:
  • For hire as a Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent field.
  • Licensed as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • For hire as a Senior Social Worker, one of the following:
  • Master's degree or higher in social work or closely related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, and principles or social welfare.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and at least 27 quarter credits of graduate work in the above areas, and three years or more of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
  • Licensed as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid driver's license and daily access to reliable transportation to travel throughout Hennepin County.
  • Current Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in the state of Minnesota.
Nice to have:  
  • Experience working with adults who have chemical and/or mental health concerns and involvement with the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of county and community resources that assist individuals with chemical and mental health needs.
  • Experience with diagnosing substance use disorders, completing Rule 25/Comprehensive Substance Use Assessments and Treatment referrals.
  • Ability to establish, communicate, and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of peers, superiors, subordinates, government officials, and the public.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and computer skills.
