ComEd

Engineering Intern

June - August 2021 • Oakbrook Terrace, IL

What I liked

Coworkers were super friendly and helpful if I had any questions or needed help.

What I wish was different

They didn't give me enough work so many days I would sit around with little to do.

Advice

Try to network. There are so many departments and jobs at ComEd so there's a lot to explore and a lot of experiences to learn about.

Computer Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • Oak Brook, IL

What I liked

Overall I liked the job very much. We used agile methodology to get throughout our work days. The pay was good. I got a good learning experience here. The commute was not that bad. I got to get a lot of hands on experience with my coworkers helping me with anything I need. The people were also super friendly here.

What I wish was different

I think our end of the internship project topic could have been better. They told us to come up with a way on how to improve ComEd instead of what we actually did at ComEd.

Software Intern

June - August 2019 • Oakbrook Terrace, IL

What I liked

The work environment and I was actually doing things that had to do with my major and things I want to do with my life.

What I wish was different

There was some sense of politics in terms of what can you say versus not that I thought was a bit annoying. But thats with any job so its inescapable.

Advice

Be nice to everyone you meet and don't burn bridges.

Care Program intern

June - August 2019 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I liked the welcoming environment and the hands-on experience. The interns were taught a lot about the company and its daily functions. Each team worked closely with the interns and created great networks.

What I wish was different

I wish that the interns were assigned more work. While we were given significant projects, some of the work assigned was menial.

Advice

Be openminded, prepare to learn something new everyday, and try to build close relationships with your team members.

Engineering Intern

June - August 2018 • Oak Brook, IL

What I liked

I very much enjoyed the people I worked with, and the flexibility to experience other departments. The company was very involved in community events and conducted a well organized internship program.

What I wish was different

I would have enjoyed my experience at ComEd more if I would not have taken a summer course during the summer as well. It became a very long commute, but I was able to manage and perform well at both.

Advice

My advice would be to all the freshman, and sophomores. It comes of great benefit to be very involved in the recruitment process as soon as possible and actually work hard to obtain an internship experience. Most of the younger students who also interned received a return offer, and are a step closer to securing a full-time position post graduation. It is very important to treat intern position very seriously and expose yourself to the industry early in your career.

Marketing Intern

What I liked

Yes, I worked in the Energy Efficiency group and loved the people and work I was doing.

What I wish was different

It was closer to my house. The 40 minute commute one way everyday was a lot.

Advice

Make sure to make as many connections as possible whether you are working or at school. It will pay off in the future.

What I liked

Good pay. Local. Interns are treated like royalty. Some hands on experience.

Intern

June - August 2018 • Oakbrook Ter, IL

What I liked

Amazing, friendly environment. My manager gave me some meaningful work rather than making something up for intern that had no use in the end.

What I wish was different

Exercise Room (definetely they should have).

Advice

Take full advantage of the opportunity when is given to you and don't be afraid to ask for more work.
