Compassion International

Video Specialist

June - August 2019 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

The work environment was incredible - very welcoming and personable. I never felt like as an intern I was being given useless jobs, but gained a lot of skills.

What I wish was different

More detail about my job beforehand would have given me time to learn some new skills.

Advice

Try applying to internships outside of your primary experience. They can be a great way to expand your skill set.

What I liked

I loved the community, the companies atmosphere and mission. I loved the development team I worked on, it was full of different types of developers that I could learn from.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more I could have done to contribute to my team. I left feeling like I hadn't done enough work for the time I was there.

Keep searching for that one place that gets you up in the morning. Find the company that you can get behind, in its mission and its community.

Tech Support Intern

June - August 2018 • Colorado Springs, CO

What I liked

The internship helped me grow professionally with resume workshops and challenging assignments. We went through a whole SAFe for Teams workshop where I took the test for an industry standard certification. The work climate pushed me to develop skills and I felt like I actually contributed to the organization by the end of the summer. We wend on a self-financed trip to the Dominican Republic before the internship, and got the chance to see the work that Compassion does in the countries that it serves. I'll never forget this experience.

What I wish was different

Not much! Colorado Springs is a cool city but there's only like 3-4 restaurants within walking distance, its all very car reliant.

Advice

Always expand your personal network, but never do it in a manner that is predatory or not respectful of other's time. Everyone at Compassion was eager to help me develop and grow, and I would highly recommend this internship to anyone looking for a faith-based internship that allows them to work in their field.
