Supply Chain Intern

May - July 2018 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

It was definitely a great experience. I got a lot of responsibilities and ran the floor by myself a lot of the time. They let me sink or swim and I think that is the best way to learn.

What I wish was different

They switched accounts last second so the account I was assigned to wasn't ready for an intern so it took awhile to get into the groove, but they adapted wonderfully and I wouldn't change the account I ended up on for anything.

Advice

Step out of your comfort zone, You will be asked to do things that you are unfamiliar with especially if it's your first co-op. You'll learn quicker and better that way.

Operations Intern

May - July 2017 • Fairburn, GA

What I liked

I liked being able to be up on my feet all day not stuck behind a computer. Getting to come in a warehouse and learn about an operation that you wouldn’t normally see because all you would see otherwise was the food on the shelve was really cool.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had a mentor during the internship. I have one now as an employee but having someone to talk to outside of your warehouse to talk to who understands and can help you would have been nice. DHL is so big you can easily do this but you just have to make the effort and connection to find one .

Advice

Be on the warehouse floor and do everything that you can. Don’t be afraid to get dirty and learn a lot. Ask questions and learn the processes. The associates who are the ones actually moving the product will respect you more for it.

Operations Intern

May 2019 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

I loved the experience that I was given. I was able to see how a distribution center or DC works and operates and the little things that can change from DC to DC as I was able to see different DCs within the company that operates for different customers. Also, DHL flew out all of their interns to Westerville Ohio for our capstone event which was 2 days long and required a 20-minute presentation from our groups. Though challenging this was an excellent experience that I am glad I was able to be apart of.

What I wish was different

I wish during the main portion of the internship as mine was extended that we were given more opportunities to learn the systems that are implemented in the site we were at. In addition to that, I wish we would have been able to learn or at least see every main function within the warehouse for at least a week.

Advice

Definitely need to be able to take constructive criticism and build from that. This is a warehouse experience that you are expected to fail at some point in and you need to be able to grow from those failures that you will inevitably have as no one is perfect. How you respond to these failures can ultimately decide whether or not you will be brought back.

Industrial Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I had a very positive experience with this company. It was clear that they put a lot of thought into the structure of the internship program which shows how much they value their potential new hires.

What I wish was different

Nothing, it was an incredible experience.

Advice

Be open to the opportunities they give you! I was hired as a finance intern originally and expressed interest in learning about the operations side and they were so open to the change.

Operations Intern

June - August 2019 • Terrell, TX

What I liked

The people were amazing and very helpful. They did their best to help me learn more about the company and my job role. If I ever had questions they were willing to help.

What I wish was different

I wish that the relocation bonus had been higher because finding temporary housing near Dallas is expensive.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions or give your opinion when it is asked for. Being confident helped me receive an offer at the end of my internship.

Operations Systems Analyst Intern

May 2019 • DeSoto, TX

What I liked

I love that I've been able to work with other sites to help them do data analysis as well as visiting other sites across the various sectors (tech, consumer, retail, automotive).

What I wish was different

I wish that I was placed at a different site as my site doesn't have a very structured way to integrate me into their operations.

Advice

Talk to EVERYONE you come across and take every opportunity to network. You never know who you're talking to and you never know who's in their network. Take advantage of your coworkers' networks!
