What I liked

Real experience, traveled weekly to client in Minneapolis, great culture.

What I wish was different

Advice

Spend Fridays in the office getting coffee or lunch with associates to explore the areas of work that KPMG does.

Embark Audit Intern

June - August 2018 • Washington, DC

What I liked

I enjoyed the firm as well as the tasks I performed over the summer. In addition, I met a number of high performing students from up and down the East Coast. The office was extremely nice and when I got off work, I was in the middle of Northwest DC. It was a great way to spend the evenings in such a great city!

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to intern for longer!

Advice

Maintain a positive attitude and do your best to brand yourself in a professional manner!

Audit Intern

January - March 2021 • Minneapolis, MN

What I liked

This was an amazing experience to learn and develop career skills that I will use not only in my work life moving forward, but in my remaining school semesters. The internship was a great opportunity to create lasting connections as well as establish an understanding of what it looks like to work in the accounting field.

What I wish was different

The only thing I would've liked to be different was instead of a virtually internship have it be in person. Obviously this was KPMG intent, but due to certain covid-19 impacts it was mandatory to be virtual.

Advice

Take chances and continually be active in the school sponsored events. Apply yourself to many opportunities and it will help you develop a great understanding of what career path you want for yourself!

Economic and Valuation Services Intern

What I liked

KPMG was voted the #1 internship experience this past year and my experience was just as amazing as the experience of everyone else who helped make it #1. I got a lot of hands on experience and learned a lot as well as attended many social and networking events with the company.

Tax Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I really enjoyed living and working in San Francisco. KPMG is a great company and did everything they could to make sure I was growing my knowledge and having a positive experience.

What I wish was different

San Francisco is beautiful, but incredibly expensive. I wish that KPMG's compensation in San Francisco was adjusted accordingly, but instead I made a similar amount of money to interns working in Des Moines, IA.

Advice

Overall I am incredibly happy with my experience with KPMG this past summer. One piece of advice for interns is to be incredibly attentive to your work. The Big Four accounting firms bring in a ton of interns each summer. Meeting new friends is a great part of the internship, but it's all too easy to get too comfortable and end up not getting a return offer.

Audit intern

January - March 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I was able to work on multiple diverse clients; overtime was allowed so on one client I averaged 65 hour work weeks (which meant I made good money). Also, in long work weeks, food is frequently provided.

What I wish was different

I didn’t like one of my teams because the Senior did not like delegating work, so she would work and the rest of us would look for things to do or read the employee handbook until she found something. I wish I had been able to request a different team at that point.

Advice

Go all in. Sometimes the hours are long and hard, but give it your all when you’re there and process it later.
