What I liked

I loved my merchandising internship at Von Maur. I worked closely with a buyer throughout the summer, gaining hands-on experience with every step of the buying process. The work I did felt meaningful—it wasn’t just busy work, but actual contributions to my buyer’s responsibilities. I attended meetings, conducted data analysis, worked on projects, visited stores, and much more, all of which shaped my experience. I always felt encouraged to ask questions, and the company's supportive culture made the internship even more rewarding.

What I wish was different

I had a great experience and learned so much during my internship. However, I wish I had spent a bit more time in the training room before starting with my buyer.

Advice

One piece of advice for someone starting this experience is to never be afraid to ask questions—it's the best way to learn, build confidence, and make the most of your time working with industry professionals.

I liked the commission we received on top of our hourly wage, my amazing coworkers, the employee perks such as the discount, and helping customers find what they were looking for.

I wish that we had more control over getting time off.

Advice

It is a great sales position, and it is important to always know how to work hard independently and with your coworkers to provide great customer service. You need to show confidence in yourself and in your skills in order to excel and meet sales.
