What I liked

I enjoyed how they made the most out of this internship after having to condense it from an in-person 8 week internship to a 2 week virtual internship. We heard from people with different fields from offices all across the country. The case project we worked on was intriguing and helped us learn how accounting professionals use their knowledge and apply it to their work.

The organization of the internship and that Deloitte went out their way to schedule workshops, learning sessions, and virtual social activities.

What I wish was different

That it was not virtual and only 2 weeks, but because of Covid-19 there was really no other option

Advice

Enjoy it and do your best to stand out. In person it is easy to get lost in the crowd and virtually it is even easier. Commit to the internship; have your camera on, ask questions, sleep well the night before, test your technology, and make the best of the situation.

What I liked

I absolutely loved the firm and everybody I worked with. It was an amazing experience to get so much hands-on experience in my field and have the opportunity to network and take advantage of all the resources of a Big Four firm. I also appreciated all the speedy feedback I received from my team members. Deloitte was quick to extend a return offer at the end of my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship had been longer because it was such an enjoyable experience and I would've loved an extra two weeks of client work.

Advice

Go in with a positive attitude and a desire to learn. Even if you don't have a lot of relevant experience or technical skills, those two things will get you far and enable you to succeed within the firm!

What I liked

Everybody was so nice and willing to help you with any trouble you may have had. It was not an intimidating atmosphere at all and you learn so much about business in general and how to effectively multitask.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more practice modules to take before we were assigned client work, however the best way to learn is to just go straight into work.

Advice

Be prepared to learn things at a quick pace and make sure you ask a bunch of questions if you are not sure about something.

What I liked

COVID-19 affected internship, the firm did a decent job of putting together programs that were useful in learning about the firms operations and structure. Small case study mimicking client engagement.

What I wish was different

Wish it had been a longer program with more practical experiences like the case study.

What I liked

My internship experience at Deloitte was a great experience. I like the fact that i get to work with Deloitte profesionals and also gained real life tax and audit practice experience. I spent my first one month interning in tax and second month interning in audit. The experience introduced me to Deloitte culture, expanded my profesional network, and provided me with more insight about different departments and the types of services that Deloitte provides to its clients.

This experience is great for any accounting or finance students who are not sure about what they really want. This experience would introduce students to several Deloittes dapertaments and the different type of public accounting services that Deloitte provide to its clients. Discovery internship allows student to explore all these services and then decide based on their experience what accounting practice and department they would be leaning towards going forward.

What I liked

I enjoyed the staff at the Baltimore office. They were friendly and social.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had not been completely online, even though they told us we would be in office. They should have informed applicants of the work mode prior to our start. Additionally, I wish we got more work. I was only able to assist on small tasks. When I asked if anyone had anything I could help with, I was always told not at this time. Last thing I did not enjoy was that my coach was stationed in another state 4 hours away. She never coached me or assigned me work. In the beginning I had a lot of questions she could not answer. It was not a good learning environment in my opinion.

Advice

I would just keep asking for work even if there is none. Keep in mind the big 4 isn’t always what it’s cut out to be. Please do more research on current employees thoughts before committing.

I wish the internship program had not been cut to only two weeks long. It would have been nice to be placed on a project, even if it were for a short period of time to get some actual experience from the internship.

Network, network, network. Craft an email with your story and send it to anyone you find interesting. Have a conversation with them and learn from them!

What I liked

Deloitte Buffalo is an office that truly cares about their interns and wants to see them succeed. This internship gave me more insight into the accounting world than any class at school ever did. Engagement with the interns ranged from partners to first year staff. I felt I received a very accurate and honest representation of the culture at Deloitte and what it is like to work there. They encouraged the interns to dive right into the work and ask all the questions you could think of. Overall it was a great experience and I am so excited to joint hem full time!

They coordinated many events for us to hear professionals speak to their experiences. We got to see perspectives from various service lines and various different experience levels, from first and second year associates to partners.

What I liked

Very cool to get incite into what consulting is and to take part in a technology implementation pitch.

The internship was shortened to 2-weeks and was fully remote due to COVID-19. I wish the experience had been in person but understandable given the time.

Advice

Deloitte is all about networking so definitely start networking right away! It will help you get placed on better projects going into full-time.

What I liked

The internship was very organized and even though remote jammed pack sessions and I learned a lot. Biggest take away was the networking sessions and advice.

Due to COVID cut to a two week remote internship. I wish it was longer and we were able to work on a more specific technology project.

Take advantage of all the networking sessions, they are super helpful and will help build connections.

What I liked

I liked how the experience was implemented remotely. Although it was only two weeks, I learned so many things about the consulting field and what my career would look like at Deloitte. I like that I got a mentor who was very kind and helped me network with other consultants who had similar interests to me.

What I wish was different

Since this was a unique experience that has never been done before with the pandemic, there isn't anything that I wish was different. The experience provided exceeded my expectations.

Advice

Speak to as many people as you can throughout the internship and network! Especially if you receive and accept a return offer for full-time, knowing more people in the firm will help you in the future if you are looking for a project in a specific field.
