What I liked

I was able to still be employed and have my first experience in IT at Deloitte, and to support the many staff working from home. There was a lot if inter-region discussions and events between students as well.

What I wish was different

Not much, maybe a bit more work but I completed all requested tasks successfully and often offered to reach out to other employees working from home to ensure their IT support and documentation needs are met

Advice

Make sure your internet is good and Zoom is working, my experience this summer was unusual but very lucky because of how few students were able to work compared to previous years.

What I liked

I like to work as a part of team with people from diverse background. I got to speak and communicate with the client company's people, trying to understand how their business work, and at the same time question myself whether the number on their financial statements match the detailed records. I also like the environment of learning since I can get feedbacks from what I see as improvements that can make, and my client would certainly be appreciate with that.

What I wish was different

I wish I could get to know more about other related industry such as management consulting, finance, etc.

Advice

Be well-prepared for the fast-paced environment. It's challenging but you always get a chance to learn technical skills, to meet new people, to build your own network, to develop yourself in a professional way.

What I liked

I really liked the training we were able to go to in Texas and Washington. I was able to work on different clients and see the different nuances of each different case.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been longer! It was the perfect amount of time because I am studying abroad fall term, and my school started early. Just to get more experience, I wish it was a little longer.

Advice

Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone! I was in a new place almost every day, and met new people almost every day. Introduce yourself and don't be afraid to ask questions!

Cyber Risk Advisory Intern

What I liked

I enjoyed working with my team and constantly learning something new everyday. I expanded my knowledge on cyber and also traveled during my internship for a client office visit. Deloitte University was also a great experience. The flexibility of changing where I can work everyday in the office was also a nice bonus.

What I wish was different

Advice

Ask questions and also take the initiative. People are very friendly and always eager to answer questions that you have. Work hard!

The team in Pittsburgh is great. Also, public accounting is fast paced and keeps you very busy.

What I wish was different

I did not enjoy working in one particular industry.

Advice

If you're interested in public accounting, START EARLY. Deloitte now has internships for freshman and sophomore with a high rate of asking them to return.

What I liked

I liked that everyone at the firm was very welcoming and willing to help you learn. I was able to apply and further develop my knowledge on how businesses work, and was given the opportunity to support the firm in a meaningful way.

What I wish was different

Advice

I would say that one thing to keep in mind is to be confident in yourself and your abilities because not doing so will prevent you from the opportunity of having a truly meaningful experience. You never know what can happen unless you put yourself out there, and when you are there (i.e. are hired) do not let intimidation get in the way of your learning. You would not have been hired if they did not think of you as capable of the work, so just be open to learning as much as you can and don't forget enjoy yourself while doing it.

Software Engineering Intern

What I liked

The networking opportunities. I met a lot of people, got close with the other interns, and was fed a lot of free food. Also, as interns, we were sent to Mechanicsburg, PA for an "Intern Conference", where we met up with other interns from around the country and had a lot of different activities. Also, I like how much opportunity there is to find work you enjoy. The company values employees learning and being involved with new methods and technologies.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been more involved with my project team, in terms of both work and social interactions.

Advice

Don't be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and go to network events. Deloitte highly values networking, so they want to see people engaged and excited to meet new people. Of course, work hard and show an eagerness to learn. Find some aspect of your work that you enjoy and exploit it to better your understanding and skill. This shows great incentive and an enjoyment for your work.

Business Technology Summer Scholar

What I liked

I loved how the company was interested and encouraged their interns to learn beyond the bounds of the firm's limits. The company is devoted to the life-long learning of their talent, which is not always common. In addition, Deloitte made me more than a number, even as an intern. I felt the relationship among the employee and the employer was mutually beneficial rather than mutually exclusive.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I wish I was more experienced and acquainted with specific technologies before I entered the internship. Although this did not serve as an obstacle in my performance, it would have provided me with an edge compared to other interns.

Advice

I would advise those who intern here to truly take advantage of all of the opportunities presented! Network, but still form genuine relationships. Learn all that you can especially because the resources are at the expense of the company. Use this as an opportunity to learn more about yourself and what you want to do in life.

How easy it was to network with other interns, Deloitte does an incredible job of providing interns with networking opportunities. My team as well was so incredibly nice and accommodating, never once did I feel like I was a pain or less than. I truly felt like I was part of a team.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer, it went by so quickly!

Advice

Try to conquer your fear of networking and try your best not to be shy. I found that the best way to make a positive impact at Deloitte is not being afraid to have a conversation with somebody. The most important thing Deloitte professionals are looking for in their interns is how well they fit into the Deloitte culture. Also, take full advantage of all the services at Deloitte University, and eat all the food!
