Go into it with an open mind. A lot of what you learn in school isn't necessarily pertaining to what auditors do. That being said, it does give you a basis of accounting and a familiarity with the concepts, as well as the financial statements.

I loved this internship. It is an exploratory internship and it allowed me to experience two different service lines within Deloitte which essentially led me to choose the service line I fit into.

I wish it were a bit longer!

Take advantages of the networking opportunities and connect with as many professionals as possible because you have the most amount of time to integrate with the company.

My team was very open and integrated me into many processes. I learned about nearly every aspect of what they do in a very short amount of time due to the training program they put together for me.

Try everything. Even if you think you don't have the skills to do a task they assigned you, just try. They wouldn't assign it to you if they thought you couldn't handle it and you can always ASK QUESTIONS.

Deloitte treats interns very well. We had a lot of independence and responsibility as well as many opportunities to build our network.

Advice
It's a good idea to go to on-campus career fairs and talk to recruiters directly because so much of Deloitte's recruiting is done on a campus level.

I liked how many trainings were provided in various ways throughout my internship. I learned about the culture of the firm and the people who I met were sharp and generous professionals.

I wish I could utilize the social event better to network with people from different service groups.
Advice
Show up to work prepared, ask questions frequently, and have the right attitude, then you will be offered a full-time position.

What I liked
Big four firm in a smaller market means a tighter knit department. At Deloitte Portland, I met the entire office and felt a connection to every other employee there (at least in the Tax department). I was even able to meet a good majority of the audit side of the office. It made me feel really welcome into an industry where I had no prior experience. I also felt as if I was not just a temporary employee for the entire 8 weeks I was there. They gave me responsibilities any other first-year would have. It made me feel good that they trusted me with handling the same kind of work that others did.
What I wish was different
Advice
Put in overtime! Experience as many projects as possible because it only helps you out more once classes come around and you've already heard of such concepts. It gives you more exposure to different engagements that you may encounter in your later professional life.

I wish I travelled with staff more frequently when they were on-site, as it made if more difficult to do my research when I had not been to the facility.

Try to make your bosses aware of your hard work ethic early on so that they put you on real projects as soon as possible.

I enjoyed seeing what work in the company looks like, as well as getting a feel for the culture. I also enjoyed seeing what skills I need to develop when I go back.

I wish I got to shadow more people and see what they were doing on a daily basis. It was more just busy work for me that needed to be done.
