FSO Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Every office is different, but I felt like I was surrounded by a lot of grown-up kids. That wasn't the problem, we should all be able to bring out our inner-child. However, when the manager of my engagement team is playing Pokemon Go for the majority of the work day, the rest of the team took it their jobs less serious, and ultimately I didn't learn anything. Above all that, being ridiculed for not going to the bar after work hours didn't feel the best. Otherwise, I really enjoyed connecting with and learning from the Partners I met. But in the end I just decided I didn't want to return.

Assurance Intern

June - August 2019 • Iselin, NJ

What I liked

My audit team truly cared about my experience at the firm, and were constantly checking on me to make sure I understood their explanations and was learning as much as possible.

What I wish was different

I spent most of my time in conference rooms with my audit team, which was amazing because I was able to learn as much as possible, but I do wish I had more time to bond with the fellow interns in my class. We only really got to know each other during the International Intern Leadership Conference in Disney World, and it would've been wonderful to have had more time with them before the end of my internship.

Advice

I would say to go into your internship with confidence. I was quite nervous to start with the firm in the beginning because I had not had any previous accounting work experience, but looking back now, I see that my nerves were for nothing. The interview process had been very rigorous, and after it was over, the HR team had made the clear decision to employ me. You must realize that even when you feel like you know "nothing", there is a reason why you have ended up where you are. Someone saw your potential, and took a chance on you. It is only right that you believe in your capabilities as they believed in you.

Tax Intern

June - August 2019 • Irvine, CA

What I liked

The people there are great, and because the internship is an established program I was grouped with ten other interns who were all going through the same things I was. The staff and seniors were helpful, and I felt challenged but not overly pressured. Everyone was very open to questions and ideas, and the schedule was flexible.

What I wish was different

Driving to Irvine from Orange is not a fun commute, especially once their schools started up again, but that's honestly the only imperfection I have.

Advice

Ask questions! All the staff and seniors want to help you, and if you're having trouble with something someone else probably did last year as well.

Financial Services Business Advisory Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to work with my team at the client site and learn about another industry while developing my consulting skills. My favorite part of the internship was meeting other interns at training and the Disney trip and making friends who I still talk to even after the summer. EY definitely gave me great insight into what my full-time career will be like.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more company-wide initiatives to meet more people within EY. Being on client site all week was beneficial, however it prevented me from meeting as many people within EY as I could.

Advice

One piece of advice I have is to develop as many relationships as possible over the summer. The people you meet early on are the ones who will be more willing to help you along the way. While working in a large company, like EY, it is essential to have connections in order to stand out from the crowd.

Transfer Pricing Intern

June - August 2019 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

The culture was great. We had resources we could pull from from different parts of the country, as well as overseas. My team really cared about its people. Hours for Transfer Pricing do vary by week, I never worked long hours.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer. It lasted 8 weeks, one of which was training, another 3 days was the intern conference, and one week of vacation because of 4th of July. I didn't want to leave by the end of it!

Advice

Try to be as polished as possible. Put your best foot forward, while also being yourself. Network as much as possible. Volunteer to speak in intern presents, I wish I had!

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

During my Launch Internship with EY I had the opportunity to work with many different service lines to see which one I preferred. Throughout the internship I spent time with the Risk Advisory, Audit and Tax teams. My time with the company was amazing, everyone was welcoming and helpful and this experience has confirmed my interest in Audit. I even still met with some of the employees on Thursday nights for beach volleyball.

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I like the networking and the experience. The people were so willing to teach and alleviated the feeling of not knowing what to do. They explained everything one by one and helped make my experience at the internship very memorable.

What I wish was different

I wish I knew about this sooner so that I would've applied sooner rather than later.

Advice

My advice is that you should apply to the internships. Even if they feel out of reach because you never know what opportunities you could receive. I applied on a whim, not expecting a reply. It really changed my summer and gave me a strong reference for my resume.

Business Consultant

July - August 2020 • Tysons, VA

What I liked

Despite being virtual, EY hosted many intern events for both educational purposes and community building. My manager and team were fantastic, and really brought me into their project for the short 3 weeks I was there.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been longer than 5 weeks to have more client time, but due to Covid-19 this was difficult to facilitate.

Advice

EY wants people who are passionate and friendly! If you are an intern there, don't worry about what you don't know (they really focus on your development throughout), but focus on building relationships and doing the best possible job you can.

July - August 2020 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

The experience itself was better than I expected, because I didn’t know exactly what to expect

What I wish was different

Fewer emails with everything we need, there were too many emails and some that we had to keep referring to. This was the first virtual internship so it had some inconveniences, but it still went very well

Advice

Always ask for help when you’re unsure!
