Audit Intern

June - August 2022 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was one of the greatest experience of my life. Everyone was very friendly, approachable and caring to intern. There were massive networking opportunities.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer. My internship was 8 weeks but one week we had summer break, one week was virtual training and the last week we went to the conference( Which was at Disney and really really awesome). I wish I could spend more time in office.

Advice

Utilize the immense resources and networking opportunities. It is really an amazing place to intern.

Consulting Intern

June - September 2022 • Detroit, MI

What I liked

Their willingness to teach you and help you grow throughout the internship.

What I wish was different

The onboarding, as it can get a bit exhaustive and generally is not specified towards what you will actually be doing.

Advice

I would suggest you to have the internship in person as it creates a much better relationship with the teams you work with.

What I liked

I really liked the community feeling I experienced with EY. Everyone was eager to help me network within the program, sit into meetings and information sessions, and to give me work that gave a taste of what I will experience when I get into the workforce. It was a great learning experience and community, and I hope to intern with them again!

What I wish was different

I do wish that some aspects like assigned work and our role as an intern within the team, were a little more clearly defined, however, if you ask questions and involve yourself in the conversation, you'll have enough opportunities and work that it isn't always a concern

Advice

Put yourself out there. If you aren't looking for work today and experiences to gain you're wasting your time with this internship, EY wants to see you grow and you have to take hold of the opportunity you've been given

What I liked

I loved the ability to be a part of a rotational program where I got experience in tax, audit, and consulting. I was able to contribute to my engagement teams and sit in on team/client meetings! I was able to learn so much about the field from this internship that I can now apply to the classroom!

What I wish was different

I wish there was more of an ability to do work in the office. The internship was a hybrid setup. Although I was always able to go into the office myself, my engagement team didn’t necessarily always want to work in person.

Advice

Network, network, network!!! There is so much to learn from others, and everyone truly wants to see you succeed! People’s doors are always open to talk. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, because everyone is always so eager to answer them and it’s such a great opportunity to learn.

Business Valuation Intern

June - August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

During my business valuation internship at EY (Ernst & Young), I thoroughly enjoyed several aspects of the experience: Hands-on Valuation Work: I appreciated the opportunity to work on real-world valuation projects. Being able to apply the theoretical knowledge I had gained in my academic studies to practical situations was both challenging and rewarding. Mentorship and Learning: EY provided me with a dedicated mentor who guided me through various valuation techniques and methodologies. I found this mentorship invaluable as it not only improved my technical skills but also helped me understand the nuances of business valuation. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Working at EY exposed me to a wide range of industries and clients. I enjoyed collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds, including finance, accounting, and consulting. This interdisciplinary approach enhanced my understanding of how valuation fits into the broader business context. Exposure to Cutting-Edge Tools: EY's commitment to using the latest technologies and tools in valuation was impressive. I had the chance to work with advanced valuation software and data analytics tools, which gave me a glimpse into the future of the field.

What I wish was different

not much, I found my time there to be very useful

Advice

Networking is Key: Use your time during the internship to build strong professional relationships with your colleagues and mentors. Don't hesitate to connect with people on LinkedIn, attend company events, and maintain those connections after your internship ends. Networking can open up future opportunities and provide valuable insights into your career path, so invest in it early and consistently.

Audit Intern

June - August 2023 • San Jose, CA

What I liked

I have enjoyed working with my audit team as everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful. My counselor has also been extremely sweet and has demonstrated a wholehearted and sincere care for my success.

What I wish was different

I wish I was allowed to attend more meetings that involved how our client and audit team made decisions to promote the client’s effectiveness of audit procedures, internal controls, and financial standing. This was because while I completed the tasks that were assigned to me by my seniors, I felt as though I learned relatively little conceptually. By being able to attend strategic meetings, I would be exposed to more complex auditing subjects, which would give me ideas about what working as an auditor might look like in the future. Another aspect of my internship experience I wish could be different was to learn more about the important responsibilities of each position in auditing, namely what the respective responsibilities of an auditing staff, senior, and manager are. By having a clearer understanding of these responsibilities and how promotions work, I could then glean insight on how much auditing speaks to me.

Advice

A major takeaway I have had is that having an earnest and eager attitude is one of the most important qualities to have. Interns should not feel too stressed about not knowing everything early on because a more important quality is to show a desire to learn.

I liked that everyone I worked with was willing to help me learn. I always felt welcomed and that helped me grow my network as well as made my confidence increase to better perform on my tasks.

What I wish was different

Nothing!

Advice

It's ok to feel scared at first. Once you go to the first social event, or first day of work, you will see that everyone is friendly and is there to help you without judgement.

Transaction Economics Group Summer Analyst

June - August 2023 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Enjoyed working in small groups on projects with internal or external clients and having a role in drafting deliverables, running economic models, and researching capital markets trends. I gained exposure to companies across various industries and locations around the world, learning new things every day!

What I wish was different

I was very sick at the beginning of the internship, so I felt that my time was rushed and I wasn't able to showcase my full potential.

Advice

Asking intelligent, well-thought-out questions goes a long way. I also recommend mastering your accounting and basic finance skills (especially debt-related concepts) before you start your internship.
