EY

Tax Intern

June - July 2017 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I loved the people that I worked with. I enjoyed the work I got to do, and the different areas of tax that I worked in.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've taken a corporate tax class before I started the internship. I wish it would have lasted longer and that interns wouldn't have had to seek out work as much as we did.

Advice

Be ready to experience all the different areas of tax, don't just keep to one area. Be ready to ask A LOT of questions and learn new things, the people are always happy to help

Launch Intern

July - August 2017 • Richmond, VA

What I liked

I loved to be able to meet EY employees in the office I am hoping to work when I graduate. The internship is vary basic, shadowing people. However, I was able to take it a step further and work on projects that I was very interested in. For example, I was able to shadow and help with basic data management in a team that was just entering busy season. That was the best part of my internship!

What I wish was different

Currently, this internship is available for college students in any year (1st, 2nd, 3rd) of specific minority groups. I think this experience would be more unique if EY would open this internship for students that are 2 years away from getting their 150 credits instead of having students do the exact same internship for several years. I think if EY makes it more concentrated in students with more accounting education then the experience could be more fulfilling for their career.

Advice

Look for all the opportunities you can get, and don't be afraid to ask anything. This is your chance to ask questions and show that you have interest in working with the company, and provide useful insights.

Assurance Services Intern

June - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to work with five different audit teams to audit publicly traded companies. I learned a lot about procedures done by auditors to give an opinion on financial statements that are filed with the SEC. As a part of these procedures, I analyzed Significant Class of Transactions (SCOTs) and documented our test of controls. I appreciated how kind team members were to answer my many questions and teach me how to do certain tasks and procedures. They many a times went above and beyond to explain the bigger picture and made sure I knew how I was adding to the bigger picture of the overall audit.

What I wish was different

On some teams, although members were kind, they weren't trusting of interns with slightly more complex work. So instead, they would give us basic administrative tasks, and often we would have nothing to do other than complete more training modules.

Advice

The doors this opportunity opens for your career are countless! Make every use of the opportunity you have to network with different teams and learn from them. Don't be afraid questions, but ask questions at the right time and group them so as to not constantly bother team members. Ultimately, be ready to do everything you are assigned joyfully and enthusiastically with your whole heart. If you are personable and produce quality work, you will be appreciated for your work.

Auditor Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I loved how everyone was very welcoming and was eager to help me get situated into the company. Everyone was willing to talk about their positions and help me learn more about the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had worked in bigger teams with more interns and employees. My engagement was rather small which was not what I was expecting.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and go outside of your comfort zone.

What I liked

I got to meet different people and get a taste of what it's like to work in a corporate office

What I wish was different

I wish the location of where I was working was explained more clearly but aside from that it was a great experience

Advice

I would advice others to make sure that they put effort in everything they do, even if they are not sure what they are doing, ask questions and do your best.

Launch Intern

July - August 2017 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I liked the rotational aspect of the internship. I was able to gain brief insights on each of the service lines that EY provides. Having the ability to experience each of the service lines allowed me to make a knowledgeable decision about which service line I would like to pursue as a career in the future. I also enjoyed interacting and working with different engagement teams, which consisted of EY employees ranging from staff to managers to principals/partners. The variety of experiences that I've had during the six-week internship at EY was phenomenal and I would recommend it to anyone who is unsure of which career path to choose.

What I wish was different

I would have liked if the internship was longer so that more time was allotted for each of the rotations. I also wish that I networked a little more. While I was able to meet a lot of people during the internship, I feel that I could have made better efforts to get to know more people at the firm.

Advice

I would suggest that, regardless of the firm or the industry, you should put your best foot forward and go that extra mile to stand out. Although you may not be a full-time employee at the firm, I would treat it as such. Don't take for granted the opportunities that you are given and always put in 110% with a willingness to learn and an eagerness to contribute to the firm as a whole and to those around you!

Advisory (Risk) Intern

May - July 2016 • Kuching, Sarawak

What I liked

Virtually unlimited access to non-confidential company resources and materials, flexibility of work within office hours when there are no client-driven deadlines, helpful and friendly staff. Was also given actual responsibilities - my first analysis assignment was used in a client presentation. Minimal coddling.

What I wish was different

I ended up working on projects related to steel and natural resource companies, neither of which are particularly interesting to me. I guess more interesting projects would have been nice, but of course that depends on what clients projects are available at a given time.

Advice

Be quick on the uptake, error-check as much as you can to hand in flawless work, ask questions whenever possible. Also, companies like this usually have a ton of proprietary learning resources - take in as much of it as you can, even if you have to stay on after work. No one is going to chase you out, usually.

Technology Analyst Program Intern

June - July 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The company culture is something that made my experience really rewarding. The people I met were all genuine and took a real interest in making sure I succeeded. EY also took all the interns to Disney World at the end, which was obviously a plus.

What I wish was different

Truthfully, I don't really wish much different from my experience. My project was really enjoyable for me, and my team made my time working fun. This obviously wasn't the case for every intern since everyone has different preferences, but from what I heard from most other interns, they all had positive thoughts.

Advice

It's okay to not know everything. My first day after just listening to my teammates, I thought I had no reason to be in the room because I didn't understand anything that was being said. As time went on however, I realized that all that really matters is that I put in the effort to learn what I don't know. Everyone in a higher position was once in your shoes too, so not knowing everything on your first day or week is normal - you're there to learn.

Accounting Intern

June - August 2019 • Providence, RI

What I liked

I liked the overall environment that EY offered. Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to help you learn.

What I wish was different

I wish my internship was longer so I could have gained more experience since it ended before the summer was over.

Advice

I would advice interns to always ask questions if they come across one, it’s better to voice your question to your team rather than try to complete your work and be unsure if you’re completing it properly.

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

EY's diverse culture and commitment for success. Allowed us to progress each week, eventually allowing us to work on staff-level assignments.

What I wish was different

N/a

Advice

Meet as many people as possible-ask others for help whenever you are free. The more people you meet, the more opportunities for work assignments. This will allow for a higher number of reviews at the conclusion of the internship, which helps in getting a return offer.

I was constantly learning and all the staff and senior members were very welcoming and encouraging. I got to come to all executive and clients meetings and built an actual model. Plus, doing business in Vietnam was just very exciting.

What I wish was different

I wish I had stay longer because it was the best chapter of my life.

Regional Assurance Intern

June - August 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I extremely enjoyed working face to face with the clients that I was assigned to. The work was way different than anything I have done inside the classroom but in a very good way. I was not just a task accomplishing intern, I was a hard-working, project assigned, independent intern. EY offers up the opportunity to start to shape your career. YOU make the internship what you want it to be.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship was longer than 8 weeks. I also wish I got to work on more clients in a wider variety of industries.

Advice

Always be asking questions. Ask your Staff, ask your Manager, ask Seniors, and ask Partners! Always ask why you're doing what you're doing; that's how you'll learn 90% of what you learn from the work experience.

FSO BAP Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I got a lot of responsibility as an intern and really enjoyed working with my team. You also get to go to Disney World and Orlando at the end of your internship. It's a rewarding experience so would recommend!

What I wish was different

I wish I had gotten to know the other interns better. As the only intern on my project and since I was at the client site constantly, it was harder to get to know my big intern class.

Advice

You should definitely try to understand the company and the role as much as possible. Network with people so you have an idea of whether this is something you want to do or not.

intern

May - July 2017 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I liked that I was actually considered part of the team. I felt like I was given meaningful work and was contributing towards the projects I was assigned. Everyone was helpful and willing to teach you everything you would need to know and more. I felt like everyone was a big family at EY STL.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I just wish it was a bit longer of an internship so I could really get into the nitty gritty of a project. That, and maybe a little more IT experience thrown in.

Advice

Do not be afraid to fail. Everyone there is rooting for you and wants you to ask questions. Mistakes are ok and no one is going to get mad if you have no idea what you're doing, as long as you go ask for help. Take the time to get to know everyone and introduce yourself.
